Sweater Weather

"Fashion"

It's the first day of Fall! Despite the date indicating a shift in seasons, the weather chose not to comply. I decided to style a turtle sweater anyway...in black nonetheless! I absolutely love black! In fact, It's been featured in every single one of my looks thus far (Oops!). From a day to day basis, I'm usually seen in an all black ensemble. I'm trying to challenge myself and break out of my comfort zone for the blog, but there's nothing like an all black outfit. All black is sleek, mysterious, sexy, and chic. Some may argue that wearing black isn't stylish but pulling off all black comes with intention. If it is not styled correctly the ensemble can come across as flat. I often like to add statement accessories and/or shoes to add…

Seasonal Refresh

"Unconventional Places"

Unconventional Places #1 If you follow me on Instagram, you'd know that a few posts ago I mentioned how I felt like I was forcing the process of styling an outfit and writing a blog post. Summer fashion isn't particularly inspiring to me and I felt both under and overwhelmed. During my week-long hiatus, I spent the time to reflect on what wasn't working for me and how I'd like to represent myself and my brand. I realized that I was creating this event around blogging. I needed the perfect outfit, surrounding, lighting, make-up, etc. Why wait for seemingly perfect circumstances? Fashion is an everyday circumstance. My style doesn't revolve around photo opportunities. Whether I happen to be at the laundry mat or at Barnes and Noble, my style still exists. I should celebrate…

Street Style Tips: A How to Guide

"Styling"

Street style is all the rage! In recent years, there has been much more of a focus in magazines on what celebrities wear casually. Models seamlessly stomp from the runway to the pavement. And seeing what an attendee wears to Fashion Week is just as important as seeing what's on the runway. What seems only achievable for celebrities, models, and fashion enthusiasts can be achievable for you! Keep reading for tips on acquiring the laid-back, chic look! FIND A STATEMENT PIECE Street style is perfect for showcasing statement, on trend pieces. Choose one item to be the star of your ensemble and add complimentary pieces to support the look. For example, your star piece is a bold printed, wide-leg trouser. The eye should go to the pants first because of its print and voluminous…

Pre-Fall Fashion

"Fashion"

We as a people constantly change and so should "the rules." I believe there should be no rules to fashion. Trends and styles are quite subjective though taste and an editing eye is essential. The great success of fashion is the ability to self express. There are no limits to who we can become and/or celebrate through our clothing. Why limit and bound ourselves to rules? I stopped living and breathing by the words of fashion critics, directors, and editors years ago. I grew confidence in my likes and dislikes as well as my ability to filter expert advice. One of my favorite fashion rules to break is matching complimentary colors. Unconventional pairings are so foreign to the eye that it just works! Black and brown is unique to me because each color is…

Shoutout to My Sis

"Fashion"

NOSTALGIA Contrary to how the above photo appears, dresses, or matching with her younger sister, were not the choice of style for my sister. She was the cool older sister that pulled off tomboy looks and had a dope sneaker collection. She knew what she liked, in more ways than one, and stuck by it. To further expound upon my previous point of being an impressionable little girl, my sister became one of my phases. I wanted to look, act, and sound just like her. There are hilarious photos of me trying to be tough and cool. And I always begged her to allow me to be Buttercup when I was clearly Bubbles. My sister, naturally, was annoyed by my parrot charades but copying her was a practice in developing my own identity and…

Dressing for Sex Appeal

"Styling"

Sex appeal is defined as the quality of being attractive in a sexual way. Now, my intention is not to ready you readers to be deemed "sexable." That is not a worthwhile goal. I merely want to encourage feeling sexy and exuding confidence. Have you ever seen someone completely comfortable in their skin? They shine and glow. They're genuine and easily attract all people. They're positive and do not self deprecate. Ever wonder how they got there? Trial and error. I am continually working on my confidence. Some days I am successful and other days I struggle. I've come to learn that I can most actively work on my confidence by identifying what I like. My likes translate into how I present myself and knowing when I feel my best. Celebrating what you like…

The New Look

"Homage"

This post is in collaboration with Shoetopia *All opinions are my own* I was a highly impressionable and absorbent child. I quickly became immersed in the "world" with which I chose to surround myself. At eight years old my world included Barbies, Bratz, MyScene, America's Next Top Model, and drawing my dreams of a 3 in 1 boutique, salon, and restaurant. I grew an intense love for fashion, beauty, and glamor. These activities were the extent of my playtime and the source of my daydreams for years. I continued to play with Barbies, in secrecy, until I was thirteen! When I was enlightened by the fact that no one my age still played with Barbies, I decided to reinvent myself. I had to mature my taste and let go of my juvenile pastime. (At least if…

Statement Sleeves

"Fashion"

As mentioned in my previous post, I love drama! Not petty arguments and fights, but extravagance. Give me avant-garde, theatrics, Divas, a show, Jennifer Lewis, Nene Leakes, Tiffany "New York" Pollard...in that order! I just thoroughly enjoy grandiose self-expression. I strive to come into a similar confidence with age. In fact, my imagination is the "bad influence" on my grandiose taste.... I'll imagine an outfit or article of clothing. Reason will say, "That's probably a little much. You just want it for the moment. You'll wear it once!" My imagination will smoothly respond, "But imagine the moment. Everyone will be thinking small and literal and then you walk in with a look™. It'll be worth that impulsive buy!" Convincing, huh? Well, that's what happened when I purchased this top. My imagination ran wild. I was…

Style Tips for Busty Women

"Styling"

Frills and ruffles are IN for the Summer! I love dramatic clothing, so I"ve fallen in love with the puffy sleeves, exaggerated shoulders, and ruffled tops. My bust, however, feels differently. I'm not the hugest fan of my boobs, so I often like to keep them covered. Additionally, ruffles and embellishment don't look the best on them. It only maximizes their size. Post-baby, it's been difficult adjusting my clothing choices to my small waist and disproportionately large bust. After spending some time adjusting, I have some tips that will flatter and minimize the appearance of your bust. FIRST THINGS FIRST I should start here: invest in a good bra! Sometimes it's hard admitting that you need a specialty bra or you've gained weight and your bra size has gone up but your clothing will…

Alter Ego Looks

"Fashion"

I have an alter ego! Actually, I don't. She has just been birthed as I type, so we're going to call her....Simone. Simone is unafraid of fashion. Sydney, on the other hand, has her qualms. I'm an adventurous person. I will always push myself to try something new but sometimes I just like what I like. For example, I continually try seafood even though I DETEST the taste. I continue to try it just in case there's a special sea creature out there that will win over my heart. My motto is: you never know. This mindset carries into my style. I see many things that I'm attracted to but wouldn't necessarily wear. I like to stick to a clean, no fuss look. Yet, I haven't truly defined my style. I just like what I…
